Spooner's Final Match Report

06 Mar 2017

Bears,

Sha'neo mentioned there might be a lot of Bear-related e-mails coming out, I'll leave that to him and other important people in the club, but do want to indulge in one last match report.

As many of you would know by now, we came up a little short yesterday and went down in the Grand Final against Gentlemen's - who now seem to have taken over the mantle as our bogey side!!!! Hopefully, they find themselves up a grade next season :)

Not only I would like to thank the 11 who represented the club yesterday, but I would like to thank the numerous Bears (don't want to name them in case I forget any!!!) who turned up yesterday and supported the club. For me, it was the undoubted highlight of the day, seeing so many of you! Although in terms of highlights, a notable mention to Boom for the six he hit over the trees. I think the 'oh wow' reaction from a number of the Gentlemen was a fair indication of how far the ball travelled.

Looking back over the season, apart from getting to play with 35 top blokes throughout the year, the highlight was the semi-final win over the Tigers. Not just because of who we were playing against, but the performance with bat, ball and in the field was certainly the best I've seen from the club, made even better by the fact that it was in a semi-final.

Finally, whilst there's been a fair bit of banter (and at times, probably too much of it!) between us, I would like to thank Gribbs - not just for his efforts this year as co-captain, but for all the work he has done for the club over the last few years. Gribbs is winding back his involvement (I will not use the 'r' word) next season and his contributions will be missed.

As for me, I hope to be able to get a few games in next season, but can't make any guarantees. It's been a blast being involved in the leadership of the club over the last few seasons. See you all at the Bearlow on the 1st!

For the last time, signing off as captain
