Polar Bears Cricket Club News story

Match Report - There are two teams out there; one is trying to play cricket and the other is not

22 Nov 2016

Evening Bears,

OK, the subject line might be a little overkill, but let's just Sunday was far from enjoyable. But, I'm going to leave that there and will not acknowledge the existence of the opposition captain in this report, or at the Bearlow presentation at season's end. Here's what did go down on Sunday

- Spooner arrived, unpacked the car and realised that the sausages had not made the trip from Dunlop. UPDATE: turns out they did, they just slid under the back seat, they were disposed of when Spooner reached Suttons Forest on his post-match trek to Sydney.

- Spooner won the toss and once again, called on the swashbuckling JJ to open things up

- The curse continued with Azz being dismissed on his 44th ball faced

- Magneto boldly claimed that GT would offer 5 chances on his way to 100. GT almost delivered, being dropped 3 times and almost committing suicide with a run out on his way to a well made 62.

- GT's knock included a glorious 6, that was hit in the 22nd over and took the innings score off 66. Is this a first sign that the curse might be shifting?

- The Bears left the BBQ too late and a number of the hastily purchased gourmet snags offered by Hughes IGA went to waste. At least there was one good BBQ on the day with GT's roasting of Radic something that had to be seen to be believed.

- Whilst not the Bears most polished performance with the bat, we mustered a defendable total of 148.

- In a sign that the curse might be hanging around, Drady's 4 overs went for 22....

- But, there might be a new cursed number for the Bears, 4 bowlers ended the match with 13 runs against their name.

- This puts Azz in an interesting predicament as he is currently 13 wickets away from a 100 from the club, but his next wicket will be wicket number 88.

- GT has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the Essendon doping saga after his attempt at an AFL-style catch in the deep resulted in him failing to get off the ground

- Spooner's outburst at not getting a plumb LBW played a handy role in getting Chook one the very next over.

- Every single bowler did a great job, whether it was taking wickets or containing runs, our attempt at defending 148 was something that we should all be proud of given our previous history against the opposition top order.

For those who played, don't forget to send me your 3-2-1s.

Cheers,

Spooner
