PBCC vs Digglers

03 Dec 2013

Good Evening Bears,

Last Sunday saw the Polar Bears searching for their maiden B-grade win in 2013-14 in a clash with the Digglers. Things got off to a promising start when Spooner won the toss and decided to bat first.

Pope reluctantly teamed up with Divay to start things off after Azz mysteriously disappeared as soon as Divay's name was mentioned as an opener. Divay was the first to go a couple of overs in after he took on their opening bowler he resembled Morne Morkel but managed to find the out-stretched hand of the second tallest Diggler (behind Morne himself). DB came in and immediately got things going while at the other end Pope was looking like he was set for a long innings before he was also the victim of a Diggler screamer. That brought Andy MX to the crease and coincidently, saw the end of Pommy's stint as umpire...

Andy MX followed DB's lead as the PBCC run rate continued to rise before DB's knock came to an end after a well compiled 38. Azz joined Andy MX at the crease and was greeted with a huge cheer upon scoring his first run for the season and it was a double milestone with the score moving to 69 (hehehehehe). This pair took us through to drinks at 3/98, even throwing in a rare 3.

Not for the first time this season, the drinks break led to a PBCC wicket with Andy MX stumped for 35 the first over after drinks. Mitchell Johnson, I mean Drady, was up next and combined with Azz for an 84 run partnership before Azz fell in similar style to Andy MX for 34. At the other end, Drady was in fine form and decided he'd had enough of hitting 4s as he started clearing the boundary markers.

Trompfie and Diesel came and went quickly as we searched for quick runs and tried to get Drady on strike as much as possible. Pommy and Drady also produced a 3 in the dying stages and when Drady was dismissed for 79 off the last ball of the innings, the Bears had amassed 8/220.

There was also a lot of entertainment on the sidelines during the Bears innings, whether it be the spectating Armface (who'd clearly come for the Coopers Pale Ale), Pope's nephew giving the perfect demonstration of how to run a 2 and trying to taste everyone's beer, further proof that Pommy should not be allowed to umpire or the treatment that the Bear mascot was getting as the Bears searched for ways to tie it down...

Our effort in the field was hampered by the fact that Trompfie had to leave early on in the innings, Diesel was on one leg for most of the fielding performance and Drady was also on one leg for the final 5-6 overs. Drady certainly made sure he had an impact on the match before his injury, whether it was the damage he caused with the ball, or his remarks about various G-spots, he wasn't too far from the action.

Unfortunately, the gaps in the field and the remarkably fast outfield meant that it was hard to contain the runs and despite Drady's 4 wicket haul and timely breakthroughs from Andy MX and Divay, the Bears couldn't contain the Digglers who chased down the runs with 4 wickets and 6 overs in hand. Not even 2 balls from Pope could help the Bears!

A big thanks to Pope and his entourage for their work on the BBQ, to Armface for coming down and drinking all the Coopers and to Trompfie for filling in at the last moment.

If you haven't already done so, could you please make sure that you have updated your availabilities for the next 2 weeks. We have a double header on the 15th and we currently have an abundance of Bears available this week.

Spooner.
