PBCC vs Rats

14 Oct 2013

Bears, there is only one word that could describe the start to this game .....Shermozzle.

With Chook, despite repeated reminders, leaving the scorebook at home and Azz forgetting the snags it clearly wasn't going to be our day. The only thing that could save us was the weather ...1% chance of rain with 0-1mm expected...

GT strolled out to have a toss and after some debate , it was decided both teams would bat. Having worked out that wasn't going to work a toss followed with GT losing and we were sent in to field.

Getting bored of apologising in advance to the opening batsmen whilst standing the top of his runup, Drady decided to apologise to both batsmen on behalf of the entire team. (in advance of course).

It seemed to work and after being on a hat trick (both caught damo) we were on top. Unfortunately that's where the joy ended for much of the match. One of the openers went on to 168* abley supported by the number 4 who scored a fifty of his own. Jono bowled well on debut, and there were some expensive overs from the rest of us , as well as some good overs but the day belonged to the opener who poked and prodded .....who am I kidding smashed and belted a big score. Repo man managed a late wicket but it was all too little too late as the Rats amassed 280 off 40 overs.

There were very few highlights in the field , however Azz 'Safe as Houses' Thorne took a nice catch and Divay managed two , although he ran over the boundary line for the 2nd and it was called a '6'. (and Damo got 2 but he has gloves)

So , with such a large score, there was a need to get out of the blocks early and openers Divay and Azz wandered out to the middle looking forward to the first hit out of the year. Five balls in , Divay has called Azz through and a direct hit saw him back with the rest of us for 0 off 0 balls. Armface was sent into his customary number 3 keen to improve on his average of 0 in that batting position. A couple of balls later he skied one and the keeper sat under it. Surrrrely he couldnt drop it....yep he did. Having dropped the catch Armface wanted a single but Divay wanted nothing of it, maybe cause the keeper was standing 5 metres away from the stumps ball in hand. This rattled Armface and he was out not too long after for ...0.  Bears were rocky but we still had plenty of talent in reserve.

Gt joined Divay in the middle and things were moving nicely thanks to a couple of boundaries from GT. Chook kept up his record of calling  a no ball every game ( totally made up statistic) but not even the old 'going down leg' would have helped as Divay lay on the pitch after falling over only for the opposition to hit the stumps ...... Divay gone for a hard earnt 5.

Drady came to the wicket and he and GT continued the scoring  until GT was bowled , from what I was told was ball of year from bowler of the year (damo told me he was awesome). I also heard he zigged when he should have zagged but personally think it was the corridor of indecision that saw him come undone.

Damo came and immediately played the sweep shot , surely far too early in the season for such craziness. He was sweeping harder than a chimney sweep in merry old England before he met the same fate as GT, by the same bowler. Out for 8.

Two quick wickets followed with Popey and Repo man both helping Azz pack the kit.

Chook entered the battle arena and was immediately off the mark with a 2 , meaning he and drady , combined scored a 50 ...Oh and Drady actually got his 50 with a great leg side clobber. He went on to get 66 before being bowler by the opener in his second spell for 66.  At this stage nothing was going right for Azz who blew out his favourite jandals and was left with only one for the rest of the game.  Chook went soon after the same way for 18 . When Jono was caught for 18 it was all over , buttsy 0* in a flawless innings. I think Azz and Buttsy should open as clearly they were robbed of a 100 each.

Thanks to a few of the boys from the other game, Spooner , Rocket, HP, Gribbs, and anyone else I cant recall for coming down and watching the last part of the debacle that was the game. Thanks to Drady for donating some beer and a big thank you to those who lugged kits/BBQs/putout cones etc. Without your support it would be a boring ole day. Also thanks to Connor who fetch the balls when they were smashed into the next ground. Don't forget to register your availability on the website. Don't know how, ask someone.

And for the record , it rained not long after we finished . About 1 mm i'd estimate !
