Polar Bears Win Two In a Row / Gribbs Umpires entire innings!

15 Oct 2012

The Polars Bears made it two form two on the weekend with the annihilation of Just For Beers.

The Bears arrived at the oval that was more suited to a day of slip and slide than cricket. However this didn't dampen our spirits and after losing the toss we fielded first.

The bowlers did a fantastic job in the field and pretty much had the oppositions measure for most of the innings. Both Drady and Ash (debut Bear) both bowled well early and picked up two wickets a piece. Ash was impressive on debut and was not scared to offer the batsman a bit of chin music. Radic also chimed in with two wickets and introduced Sunday Social with a new mystery ball that is sure to bamboozal more batsman to come. At drinks the Bears were well on top with Just For Beers 6/46 of the allocated 20 overs.

After drinks Just For Beers offered some resistance with 'The Woodchopper' and their skipper 'Bad Beard' punisher anything loose. Azz quickly removed the Woodchopper and after some lofty blows from a Western Creek ringin, Just For Beers Pretty much had nothing. Wicket kept falling, however we were unable to get out their number 11 'Pony' (Not to be confused to with Ponytail Express). JUst for Beers at a very getable total of 116 off their 40.

Bowling figures

Drady    2 for 10 off 8
Ash        2 for 34 off 7
Radic    2 for 9 off 6
GT         0 for 10 off 4
Andy     0 for 13 off 2
Azz       2 for 18 off 8
Chook   1 for 18 off 5

At a batting unit we very very good. Damo continued his love affair with the Wanniassa ground, not because he has made lots of runs their but he is the luckiest man every to pull on the whites at the oval. Damo's 7 included a near run out and another drop chance! However in all seriousness Damo is doing a pefect job for us as opener and has got us off to good starts twice in a row now. Popey too was dropped early, how then got the head down and played one of the best innings I have seen him play. Very strong off the backfoot and solid on the front. Adz played another great innnings for the Bears and both him and Popey really accelerated after drinks (1-66) scored the reamaining 51 runs in just 6.2 overs.

Batting figures

Damo    7
Popey   43 not out
Adz       54 not out

The Bears win easily by 9 wickets with 88 balls to spare.

The really great thing about the win apart from the on field performaces was the support we got from the spare bears. It is awful trying to pick a team every week as so far we have had people miss out. To Gribbs, G-Man, Spetsy, Buttsy and anybody else I may of missed it is great having extra bear support on the sidelines.

Special mention must go to our Vice President Gibbsy who put Pommy out of a job for good with a vote atteacting performance on the BBQ. Not to mention the 20 odd overs he spent in the field as Umpire Gribbs.

Special Mention number 2 goes to Timmy who fielded like a man possessed. He is also sure to attract quite a few Bearlow votes for introducing the Bears to his homebrew ( fully equipped with CO2 tube).

Finally congrats to Ash who made his debut for the club and picked up a couple of wickets and stirred up their skipper Bad Beard with a short one.
