Bears

I would again like to take this one last opportunity , this time as the outgoing pres to thank everyone who has continued to support the Great Polar Bears over the years.

I took over the role of "top bear" when Ben Healey suffered a medical condition and was no longer able to play (although he still wishes he could). Prior to Benj we had Mark 'Hunter' Hillman, who moved away and was no longer able to fulfil that role. I have had support from many Bears such as Jnr and Azz who arranged teams when i couldn't or was just plain jack of it.

I am fairly passionate about The Polar Bears, mainly cause we are just there to escape the reality and have a hit/drink/laugh with blokes I would call mates. Part of the fun is taking the piss which we do frequently.

So firstly, thanks to the old committee , of which Azz, Buttsy and I are taking a break and welcome your new committee

Top Bear - Hot Pants

Next Top Bear - Gribbs

Treasurer - GMan

Committee - Drady, Popey and Damo

Social Director - Super

As you can see there is an extra committee member with three general committee this year. It was agreed on the day that these Bears were nominated and accepted so all of them deserved to have their commitment recognised.

A sub committee has been formed which includes me (and Benj) and whoever wants to get aboard. This sub committee will look at the Polar Bears 15 year anniversary 'event' which is in 2013. Not one year of the Bears but 15. I will report to the committee to get endorsement etc. Let me know if you are interested in helping out. First up , if you have any old Bear photos , i want them. Either see me and i will scan them or email me at fifteenyearsofpolarbears@hotmail.com

Cost to get into the sunday social comp has increased , not sure but according to GMan we should have the funds to cover this but not much more. The committee will look into chocolate sales which has done us good in the past as well as a BBQ(ie bunnings). So dont be surprised if you get asked to sell a box of chocs or give up a few hours to burn some snags in aid of fundraising for the club. Remember all money is pumped back into the club , with events/equipment (Gribbs VP salary) and most importantly keeping the cost affordable.

Sponsorship - Macgyver has recently taken up role as head of security for Rose Cottage and had conversations re sponsorship. Popey will contact them to see what they want in return. Our issue is we play Sundays and anywhere in Canberra so we could not honour any 'come back and drink' sponsorships however Popey will talk and see. At worse we may have a venue for Bearlows etc.

Teams - In an email recently I asked if everyone could give an indication as to what level of commitment you had for next year....playing weekly/ fortnightly or not playing at all. I didnt get much of a response so the committee will be approaching you all to see if you are playing and then they can make a decision on number of teams/ how teams are selected etc. Thanks to those who provided feedback on last years season, it will be passed onto the new committee (Spooner, Popey and Azz).

I want to wish the new committee all the best in the future , some new ideas / directions are needed to ensure the club goes long enough for some of us to play with our kiddies in the cyan and silver!

Lastly, unless you have been living under a rock, the Bearskins are in. VP Gribbs has them.
