Semi Final Announcement

21 Feb 2017

Bears,

The captains are pleased to announce the following side to take on the Tigers @ Kaleen in the Northside semi-final this Sunday. For those not named, once again, we'd like to thank you for your contributions throughout the season.

Also, we're looking for volunteers to come along and spectate, perform 12th man duties and most importantly, we're looking for anyone who will be able to come along and fulfil the role of scorer during the Tigers innings. Given it's a semi-final, we're keen to have a dedicated scorer to avoid any disputes over the status of the match. Now to the team, which is being listed in 'likely' batting order...

Opening the batting, is none other than the White Wizard himself, the reigning Bearlow winner. If he’s not scoring runs, he’s bamboozling the opposition with his magic. He’s one of NZ’s finest exports, it’s Aaron ‘Azz’ Thorne.

His partner in crime, or is that tag team partner in this case, not just at the top of the order, but in the spin department as well, it’s everyone’s favourite good guy, and he’s getting ready to lay the smackdown… It’s Russell ‘The Love Muscle’ Noy.

Batting at first drop, is a man who has had a number of firsts this season. He was the first Bear to be dismissed for 99, he might be the first Bear to 500 runs and he became a father for the first time. He’s also going to be our first choice wicket-keeper for the game, It’s Adam ‘Radicooooooooooooooo’ Radic.

The force is strong with this one. Fresh off his first foray into captaining the ‘Big League’, he’s got runs and wickets this season. Is it a Cornetto? Is it a Magnum? No, it’s Thomas ‘Magneto’ Van Kints.

Time for a pointless stat. Did you know that Shane Watson batted in every position from 1 – 7 in test cricket, but only managed 1 innings at #5. With that mind, who else, but our very own Watto to occupy the #5 slot. It’s Gregory ‘GT Watto’ Terrell.

Who would have thought a Polar Bear body part would ever be as famous as Pope’s calf, but here we are… At #6, having passed his fitness test last week, is the man with the most famous knee in Polar Bear history. He’s also the VC, it’s Kyle ‘Boom’ Allen.

Slotting into the middle is a man who is being given a licence to thrill in the middle order and have the Tigers on the back-foot in the middle of their innings. He went AWOL during the season, but a return to the side late in the year means he is a welcome addition. It’s Damien ‘DB’ Brennan.

Apologies in advance, the next batter needs no introduction. He has more matches, wickets and apologies to his name than any other Bear and he can bat as well!!! It’s Peter ‘Drady’ Dradrach.

Australia may have James Faulkner as a finisher, but we have this man. He’s won a game in the dying stages with the bat and nearly bowled us to another victory. It’s Shane ‘Sha’neo’ Richards.

Next up, its time to go old school. After a period of hibernation, he’s made a number of successful appearances this year and his rediscovered form of yesteryear… Another NZ product, it’s Anthony ‘Chookaaaaaaaahhhh’ Parsons.

Rounding out the side, well the skipper has to find somewhere in this line-up to slot himself in and he seems to have made this spot his own. He really wants 2 more matches before he enters the world of Part time Bear from next season. It’s Andrew ‘Spoonaaaaaaahhhh’ Lourigan

Standby for an official selection e-mail!!!
